How to install vent flashing flat roof. Lay the starter row of metal shingles at the drip edge and affix to the roof with metal roofing nails. Slide the top and sides of your vent underneath the surrounding shingles and leave the bottom side of the vent exposed and laying over the shingles. Now that the old flashing is gone you can slide the new flashing over the pipe vent and maneuver it under the shingles above the pipe. Turn your vent upside down and apply a thick bead of caulk to the flange.
Then nail the new l shaped flashing under the builder s felt but above the fascia board. 1 remove nails holding down shingles above the pip. Add a large bead of caulk in a half moon shape around the flashing and put the shingles back in place. Look for the chimney or any type of pipe coming out of the building.
