How To Ratchet Strap Luggage To Roof No Rack
Part 1 of 1.
How to ratchet strap luggage to roof no rack. Set the item on the car roof. Place the foam blocks carefully on the roof of your vehicle evenly apart. On each side of the roof you ll see a rack that runs the length of the roof of the vehicle. Again the ratchet strap is relatively simple once you ve learned the tricks and as long as you have at least two of them.
The second option is the side racks. You can also wrap the straps beneath the crossbar on both sides of the vehicle and then tighten the strap buckles. Just as before wrap that end of the safety strap under the other side of the same roof bar. Secure each end together and tie any slack to the rack.
Use tie down straps or ratchet straps to secure your luggage to the carrier. Roof racks have been known to fail at high speeds with lots of updraft so take the extra precaution of tying the roof rack down to the roof of the vehicle as well. The former works for outdoor gear like hunting or camping equipment as it s easier to clean and the latter is good for protecting softer bags. Bring that strap end around to the other side of the cargo.
You can attach a strap to anchor points as seen in the first image below. Lift up your board onto the foam pads. Place the item you wish to carry squarely on top of your car s roof making sure it is centered both front to back and side to side. Ratchet straps are versatile and easy to use.
If you choose the rack top it off with a cargo net for added safety. Attach a metal roof rack or a hard plastic or foldable clamshell. Use ratchet or cam straps to tie the roof rack through the doors not the windows. Get help if you need to lay the board facing down the fins upright.
With the third option crossbars with side rails you can secure an item to the side rails and run tie downs from front to back securing them to the crossbars.
